Post-Fall Cleaning Tips for Metal Roofs
Homeowners often look over the basics such as a post-fall roof clean that they can do themselves!
Trapped fall debris on roofs and in gutters, such as leaves, sticks, and dirt, in conjunction with the higher moisture levels of winter, can contribute to the premature aging of roof surfaces through permanent discoloration or premature corrosion.
Key areas to check and clean include valleys, roof transitions, and behind chimneys. Tips for roof maintenance are generally identified in the warranty provided by your roofing product manufacturer.
For metal roofs, a simple rinse with a hose using tap water is sufficient; however, a 1/3 cup of Tide® detergent dissolved in one gallon of water, followed by a clear rinse can be used for more stubborn roof grime – but don’t use abrasives or chemical cleaners!
